Are you barely rolling out of bed in the morning while your honey springs into action at the first sound of the alarm? Annoying, isn’t it? You might be wondering why you don’t have more energy when you wake up and start the day off annoyed at why you can’t be more like your partner who just seems to be switched on, has fire in the belly and is sparked up all the time while you are still rubbing the sand out of your eyes. This might be because you are a different relationship type then your honey.
It could be that your sweetheart does have a fire in his belly. Not literally of course, but just as close. There is a reason we are all different, operate at different levels of energy, get more or less accomplished during the day, have a preference in temperature, food, and are early risers or night owls.
The ancient Indian healing system of Ayurveda knows all about the differences in us, be that our physical capabilities, statue, or mental and emotional makeup. According to Ayurveda there are three main body mind types, and several sub types made up of different combinations of these three main types.
The three main types are Vata, related to the element air, Pitta, related to the element fire, and Kapha, related to the element water. Each of these types has very specific and unique qualities that make them great at some things and maybe a little sticky in other ways.
What is your Relationship Type?
The Multi-tasker
The Vata type who is governed by the element air tends to have a more flighty way of live. Their energy can be quite all over the place and they may change their mind often, it’s a full time job trying to keep up with what’s changed since you had lunch with the Vata type. Always full of ideas, innovation, vision, and very open minded to new things. We all know someone who comes up with amazing new ideas and concepts and releases them into the world, yet hardly ever follows through to the end.
Vata tends to get bored easily and restless and will strive to find entertainment in many places.
Yet this type also wants to achieve and push and tends to ignore their limitations with variable spurts of energy throughout the day.
This type tends toward burnout, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Stability is quite important and it is important for the Vata person in your life to lend a strong shoulder to lean on, an open ear to their ever changing story. Being a stable and steady pole for this person will help ground them and balance the wild and crazy changes in energy Vata can experience.
Holding Vata in a bear hug will calm the initial restlessness and turn this rigid soul into a softly purring kitten. Giving your Vata honey a safe haven to come home to is the greatest gift you can give her.
The Fire Cracker
Remember the person with the fire in the belly, full of drive and energy? This is a Pitta quality and the fire in the belly is a representation of the fire element in this type. It also means that this person has a very strong digestion and high metabolic rate. We are talking about the digestive fire, Agni, that burns hot in this type.
The Pitta person tends to be very driven at whatever they chose to do, and can also get a little hot headed and opinionated. When Pitta sets a goal for themselves they will do whatever it takes to achieve it. Pitta will muscle their way through obstacles and come out strong. Having a Pitta friend or partner can be challenging at times as their “My Way Or The Highway” attitude can be jarring, but you can be sure that this warrior will be there to fight for you when life gets chaotic.
Feeling wronged Pitta’s fire may ignite and burn all bridges, forgiveness is not a well used word in Pitta’s vocabulary. Though Pitta tends to be hot headed, deep down they crave harmony more then anyone else. You will be Pitta’s best friend and greatest lover if you know when to nod your head Yes and let them be right in their way. Once cooled down Pitta will see reason.
The Bear
The Kapha type is the person who will have a hard time leaving the warm and cozy comforter behind and kicking themselves out of bed and into the day. Off to a slow start, once this person gets rolling they gain moment and will keep going at steady energy, all day long.
This type is blessed with kindness and calmness and is usually well liked by everyone around them. The poor Kapha person tends to struggle with a low and slow metabolism and their digestive fire burns at very low flame, which makes them sensitive to cold outside temperature as well as weight gain. Kapha will likely not be happy in a cold and damp environment and you can’t pile enough blankets on this person to keep them warm.
Kapha is very reliable, this is your best and most loyal friend in the world. It will take a lot of wrong doing and mistreatment on your part to get this person out of your life, but once you hurt this beautiful soul they will likely never forgive you and hold a grudge till the end of days.
To be a great friend and partner you have to treat Kapha like your enemy. Kick them out of bed in the morning, hide their car keys and remote control and make them move. This person may react like a grumpy bear, but don’t be scared, beneath all the growling is a person who is happy to have you in their life, caring about them and pushing them to their own good.
Have you found yourself or the person close to you somewhere in the words above? Might you be the calm and slow rolling Kapha bear, or more of a Pitta fire cracker? Can your Vata partner come at you with a hundred creative solutions to solve a problem at work just to turn them all down and around after dinner?
The old verbiage “Different Strokes For Different Folks” does apply and getting a glimpse of who you are and the people important in your life can lead to happy and long lasting friendship and romance.
